direction – gospel jazz harp! As a church musician, Frank enjoys the music of contemporary worship styles but truly loves the hymns of the church. His arrangements of traditional hymns in a fresh and exciting, jazzy style are a welcome change of pace in church concerts and performances. Frank’s harp concerts are full of fun and humor, yet “tell the story” of God’s love for us, and our responsibility to praise Him. Each concert is an event of praise and worship. “The applause is not for me; I just send it right up to heaven where it belongs,” he says. Each concert can be customized to include one, two, or all three instruments – harp, organ, and piano. He has performed several concerts that consisted of half harp and half organ performance, or half harp and half piano performance. Frank recalls, “I think one of my favorite concerts was when I was performing a harp and organ concert and then surprised the audience by walking over to the Steinway and just started playing. That was fun!” Frank is available to present Jazz Technique Workshops at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced level. Once harp students are introduced to simple jazz concepts and techniques, they can practice and develop these techniques and enhance their enjoyment of playing the harp as well as expand their repertoire and begin improvising. He also delivers a Jazz Technique Workshop for Harp Teachers to help bridge the gap between classical harp and jazz harp techniques. Many harp instructors are open to the possibilities of jazz harp but don’t know where to start or how to get the information they need. This workshop gives teachers a successful training approach they can use with students. Frank has delivered these Jazz Harp Technique workshops at the Charm City Harp Conference (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003), Somerset Folk Harp Festival (2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004), Neosho River Harp Festival (2005), and Southeastern Harp Weekend (2006). He has also been a featured artist and clinician for the Denver, CO; Rochester, NY; and Phoenix, AZ chapters of the American Harp Society (AHS).
