Frank Voltz is a multi-talented musician; a concert artist on piano, harp, and organ; an accomplished composer and arranger; and a highly respected clinician and teacher.

 

Frank began playing the piano at age 7 and graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance. He has been accompanist for The Ohio Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (NYC), and The Joffrey Ballet (NYC). While working with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, he was Assistant Ballet Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony under Andre Previn. In addition to performing for President Ronald Reagan (twice), he continues to concertize and is in demand as an accompanist for nationally recognized vocalists throughout the country.

 

Frank began playing the organ in church at age 11. He continues to perform organ recitals around the country,  and he performed on the original "Hour of Power" at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA. He was organist for the National Christian Choir (NCC) in Washington, DC for 4 years and recorded four CDs with the NCC. In 2014, Frank presented a solo concert, "Christmas at the Coleman,” on harp, piano, and “The Mighty Wurlitzer” pipe organ (1928) at the Coleman Theatre in Miami, OK.

As a Director of Music and versatile church musician, Frank possesses experience in traditional as well as Contemporary Christian music. He has conducted vocal choirs, handbell choirs, and orchestras; directed and produced musical productions; arranged choral and orchestral music; and produced a nationally-syndicated Christian television program. As a former church musician in the Washington metropolitan area, Frank was invited by Shirley Dobson to perform for the National Day of Prayer on several occasions.

 

Frank began playing the harp as an adult. After playing the harp for only 5 years, he competed and won Second Prize in the Lyon & Healy International Jazz and Pop Harp Competition, Lever Harp Division. For the past 25 years, he has been a guest clinician and performing artist at various harp festivals and conferences throughout the United States and Canada. Since moving to Winston-Salem, NC in 2009, he has performed on several occasions with the Winston-Salem Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, and the Piedmont Wind Symphony. In 2010, Frank was commissioned to write an arrangement for the American Youth Harp Ensemble. In 2014, he was commissioned to write an original composition for harp and handbells for New Philadelphia Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC. In 2016, he performed at the American Harp Society (AHS) National Conference in Atlanta, GA.

 

Frank has recorded five harp CDs and two piano CDs. As a Gospel Jazz harpist, he is in demand performing in churches all over the country. As a jazz harpist, he has performed on various Rock, Jazz, Gospel, New Age, Folk, Christmas, and Sacred recording projects for various artists (including a Grammy Award winning instrumentalist). He has published more than 100 hymn arrangements, ensemble arrangements, and original compositions for lever and pedal harp through his music publishing company, Chiera Music (www.frankvoltz.com). His music has been recorded by other harpists around the world.

 

Frank is currently on the Board of Directors for the Piedmont Chapter of the AHS.
